Shetland windfarm - Viking Energy

The Shetland News report is suggesting that the meeting is still going ahead but how can it if the vice-chair has resigned and the chair, Bill Manson, as a director of VE can't chair the meeting?

One would hope there is a procedure in place to deal with this.

Such as, where the chair and vice chair are unable, or unwilling to attend, then the remaining members can nominate one of their number to chair the meeting.

Today's P & J headline shows that the proposed £3billion offshore windfarm off the coast of Caithness could be seen as far away as south of Orkney. There is no height of wind turbines given.

As the proposed VE wind generators, fully extended, are 149mtrs high, and set on top of Shetland's highest area of land, from what distance could they realistically be seen from - America?

Any research done on this?

North or South ? IF you get up high enough and have a good enough telescope you will see them from 'America'.

The seven trustees who signed the request are: Jim Budge, Betty Fullerton, Josie Simpson, Robert Henderson, Addie Doull, Andrew Hughson and Gussie Angus.

Only north isles councillor Robert Henderson seeks re-election on Thursday.

Humph.........Charming!......Only one of the seven who think its so vital to push the decision through considers the project important enough to seek reappointment to push it forward over the next four years. The farce continues......They may have the mandate legally, but ethically they almost certainly don't. Seems to be how the SIC and SCT operates these days, the sooner May 3rd gets here the better!

TO THE SSE REPRESENTATIVE READING THIS THREAD:

We've just had yet ANOTHER power outage down here in the south end. Why on earth do you think we should trust you to build and run a windfarm when you can't even manage to maintain the existing network adequately? Is it because you can't spend some of your profit on upgrading the network as your shareholders would disapprove? Silly me, is it because there are no subsidies for doing standard work?

Some people think the only way our network will be upgraded is if we have the windfarm. There is really NO reason why SSE can't get their act together NOW to upgrade our network - if other countries abroad faced with geological challenges can manage it, WHY can't you?

^ Absolutely. What we are seeing is the attempted desecration of the whole central mainland of Shetland for the sake of filling the coffers of a few selfish and greedy landowners who just simply cannot wait a few more years for marine energy to catch up.

Any Shetlander supporting this should hang their heads in shame !

I will help them out here.

Becase there is ample evidence from existing projects they can do it.

The only reason SSE have the Shetland network / presence is for its wind potential. The distribution network loses masses of money, so without the windfarms going ahead, it would be in Shareholders interests to sell off the Shetland network to whoever gives them a fiver.
