  1. I once misplaced a book and took it back 12 months overdue, I found it in a suitcase pocket from my holiday the previous year the library ladies were very nice about it and no fine, I call in every Saturday and often reserve my books online, you can also extend your loan online as well, so no need for anything overdue now. It's a great library and long may it live
  2. What a waste of a young life, loved her music sorry she's gone
  3. I love the fact that no matter who asks a question or needs help Shetlinkers come to the fore, and always help without prejudice.
  4. Sorry Paulb it just really gets to me, we have there as in over there, their, as belonging to them, and they're, as in they are, in the english language, I'm thinking you mean their, please other shetlinkers correct me if I'm wrong, I don't take offense.
  5. I give up...... tiddles do you not have a Shift or Caps Lock on your keyboard, it makes your words look so much better if you use them appropriately, I had only a Sec Mod education so I'm no brain box when it comes to writing but I read and learn.
  6. No it just makes it difficult to follow what you're trying to say or are you trying to exclude older not maybe text savvy people
  7. I've been waiting 3 weeks now for a windscreen, I was booked for a replacement the Monday AFTER Auto windscreens went to the wall, the windscreen was at Lerwick Auto Body's but they can't fit it because they won't get paid as my Insurance moved over to Auto Glass, what a bummer that was. After numerous phone calls to Stronachs and Auto Glass, I finally had a call from Auto Glass headquarters to say it's unacceptable that I've had to wait that long and they would look into the reason why. When I spoke to Stonachs they told me they were waiting for 20 windscreens to be delivered, no fault lays with them, they can't fit them if they haven't got them. It seem there's a delivery problem, the screens are sent from a depot in Glasgow, more on that when they get back to me. I think that they're having a lot of windscreen damage South and supply is maybe short. Just my thoughts on that, I'd be quite happy to wait but I'm changing my car soon and need to get the screen replaced.
  8. I thought this thread was about travel, I find it really hard to follow what's being said here (bad grammar or text speak) why not start a Gay/Text speak thread and leave the Travel thread alone to people who want to talk and inform about their traveling. Help from the Mods would be appreciated here
  9. I had Helium filled balloons at my 25th Anniversary party, the first thing the teens did was suck it all out, an hour into my party no more balloons but a lot of funny speaking people they were a great hit.
  10. Just stopped snowing now on the Westside, no sat signal as the dish is covered, poor internet and I think that's because of the snow, but I've a good book to read so I'm fine, for now
  11. Snowing like billyo on the Westside at the moment, looks very pretty but I can hear cars going past the window so the Voe-Aith road or part of it at least must be passable
  12. Came over the Alps about 30 minutes ago, the gritty men passed me so no problem with drifts then, the road was a bit slippy in places, but I had to stop twice as I couldn't see the road for the blizzard, don't think it'll take long before we have some big drifts build up. Bits of the main road from the North were iffy but driveable with care.
  13. I agree that protesters should not hide their faces, I see that on the news and it makes me think they are just there to cause trouble, and don't have a legitimate reason for being there, if they are serious in their protest why not show their faces?

    Salt Petre

My brother was once prescribed Saltpeter for Athletes foot, he'd to soak his foot every day in it, turned his skin a strange colour but it worked
  16. I can mind walking through a field down south with my boyfriend as he was then and his dog, we'd walked that field before and never had a problem, this day the Friesan cows in the field got curious and started to move towards us, we had tried not to attract their attention by walking at the side of the field as we'd done on a regular basis, there was even a worn out path there that was frequently used by locals to get to the cliff tops, we noticed that the herd had picked up speed and were running towards us, so we did them same and ran towards the fence at the bottom of the field, the dog was terrified and on reaching the fence we picked him up and chucked him over, quickly following him. That was the first time we ever had any problem walking through a field of cows with a dog, there were no calves or we would never have gone into the field in the first place, never did it again, way to scary, they're much bigger than me. If you do it be aware, and have an escape route planned

  18. I started work at 15 fully expecting to retire at 60, I've always been lucky to be in employment, I've had various jobs and have always worked hard, I've never been out of work or claimed any benefits, but I've never been lucky enough to land a job with a company pension, on reaching 50 the government moved the goal posts and I've now to work until I'm 64 and 11 months, I took out a personal pension only to see it lose a fortune, my wages haven't gone up in the last 4 years so I've had to drop my pension payments, fuel costs have gone up so it now costs me more to get to my work, sometimes I despair.
  19. I voted for Bixter but it said we weren't elegible as there were less than a 1000 premises
  20. I buy a great product from Harry's in town called Elbow Grease, a good spray with that and a plastic scraper dealt with my cooker, and you can use it on just about anything. It's also used or at least was used in Voe Bakery so safe to use around food. Oh and Microwave cleaning is easy using this.
  21. Lerwick Vets for my two, they saved one dog's life and are very good with the older timid one, and always greet the dogs as well as the owners, even getting down on the floor to say hello to the peerie one. We found their prices very reasonable as well, in comparison with Westside.
  22. Well Mal, it was forcast for Shetland, I didn't believe it would happen, so looks like the North got it, nothing on the west side yet......
  23. Not a dog lover then are you?
