MJ Posted October 13, 2012 Report Share Posted October 13, 2012 A little confused, know someone who was told to come down to the police station today, and she's a little peeved to have dragged herself and small baby into town by public transport 1st thing this morning to find it closed. After a couple of return visits, a phone call was made to be told the station would be open again on Monday? http://northern.police.uk/Territories/shetland-contact-details.html The website still says 24hrs. I know there were threats to close it outside of office hours, but I thought a solution had been found. Unfortunately she's young enough she's not likely to put in a complaint and this won't have helped her distrust of our police force. Is it just this weekend or is the station closed every weekend? There is usually a poster on the door that says its closed and if its an emergency then dial 999! Its a bloody joke, at the weekends we often have to phone for the police (nature of job) and when you phone the local number you get put through to Someone in Wick, Thurso, Orkney or Inverness, we given up phoning now. Maybe it's just because I have a teenage daughter, but all of a sudden town seem less of a safe place for her to be at weekends. It would be no surprise if they had the way things are going. Seriously though, the idea of closing the public counter was mooted some time ago, and in the face of public opposition the powers in charge of such things backed down, and, if memory serves, gave an assurance that they'd scrapped the plan, or words to that effect. Yet, it would appear the very same plan has been very quietly sneaked in the back door and presented as a fait accompli.... Not exactly the display of sincerity and integrity one would expect from an organisation who are charged to uphold the laws of statute, facilitate justice and "protect and serve" I shouldn't have thought. Casualty & Outpatients DepartmentAbout the Department The main duties of this department are dealing with casualties as well as holding a varied selection of outpatient clinics.Casualty Casualties range from the very minor to more serious trauma. Most can be dealt with in the outpatient treatment room but more serious cases have to be admitted to the wards and/or taken to the main theatre. http://www.ohb.scot.nhs.uk It would appear they do!? However, the counter is not - it is open 8am-midnight Sunday-Thursday and to 4am on Friday & Saturday nights. The reason it was closed on Saturday during the day was due to staff holidays, but it was open from 6pm onwards, which is the busier part of a Saturday. If you arrive at the police station and the door is closed (which can happen during lunch breaks, etc) all you have to do is phone the number on the sign on the door and you will be put through to whoever is answering the phones. They can then radio a Shetland officer to come back to the station to speak to you if they are available. Likewise, if you phone in and get put through to a different station, just tell them what you need and they will immediately pass on your message to a local officer. You can't just breeze in here and starting putting out useful information regarding this situation in your first post! We have to have at least six pages of outrage, gossip and weird ideas before anyone is allowed to put up anything remotely useful. Hang your head in shame.....
