It's a pity that they're selective regarding who and where they provide the seven days a week delivery service they talk about. Alright if you live in town or down the south end but if you're up north or in the west of the island then it's three days a week, take it or leave it - and if you're on a wee island then....

Shetlanders tend to give you back what you put in. There are still strong communities and they are generally welcoming of people from anywhere, but I'd say the onus will probably be on you to get out and meet people and get involved with things. It's a sort of friendly but quiet place, where people will do all sorts of favours if they know you, but will leave you to yourself if they think that's what you want.

I don't think you should be "tarred with the brush" of the barge workers. There are plenty among them who have settled fine and made friends here. It's just that a disappointing number come and cause trouble. I think part of the issue is that they don't see themselves as belonging to the place and therefore don't have much respect for it. Unlike you they haven't really made the active decision to relocate here, they've just been sent through work.

please please dont use. if you need your drive done find someone local. maybe it will cost you more but your more likely to have a decent job done. as last time dont assume door knockers are nice honest hard workers just trying to earn a crust. most often they are not. a decent worker does not need to travel away from base to earn a living. if your tempted just delay saying yes for a few days. if its a now or never deal let it be never. just look in tje paper or yellow pages plenty of folks willing to work for you

frances just ignore. i was on the last plane back on tuesday and it was pretty bad. first time ive flown in 24 years. very different than the larger  jets. landing was bouncy. i feel sorry for the cabin staff is there really need to serve a drink on a 45/50 minute trip. frances you drive how you want to. its the drivers responsibility to drive at a safe speed for themselves. if some one wants to pass they can. i suspect we know who know Shetlands weather conditions better. and over your fear it normal when you see weeks of reports on safety faults to be concerned over your loved ones. on a positive note airstaff were wonderful.

^ Well at least "you know your enemy" and can play it the way you think is best. Its better than finding out the mischief makers are Housing employees hiding behind desks, job titles and office doors, who have been making up unfounded stories, and abusing their "position" to spread them among relatives, the Police, Social Services, NHS and God knows who else for apprently self-serving ulterior motives, which is something they have form for.

Couldn't agree more Urabug, if the big companies can sell their electricity at cheaper prices to the central belt and charge us a lot more, then VE surely can set their tariffs to reverse the norm and charge cheaper electric to rural areas.

sorry my numbers were out a little it will be 29 billion per new nuclear power station. for that we could cover 1/2 of the uk in solar build millions of turbines and rebuild leaky houses to super insulated ones. we are planning to spend just under £500 quid per person for one power station. the rubbish of trying to say china will fund it is rubbish. we will be paying and added interest as well. and in 50 odd years we will be required to decommission and store deadly waste for millions of years. we still dont know were to store our waste from the 1960s. you may not like turbines and some dont but you do need to realize there is no choice its needed for our future energy need.

i would be amazed if those "bus drivers" did not know the state of the planes they use multiple times a day. even a bus driver will be able to tell when their transport is not up to scratch.

a road can both cause and prevent a slip. you really need to prevent either drying or wetting of the natural peat water levels. a simple example badly planned drains will either dry or over soak a peat moss. preventing a pooling of water by not damming the flow of water in the peat. conversely causing a drying to happen will kill the moss and result in a dead eco system. the experts employed to plan and build tje roads will know this or i hope they do. https://corporate.vattenfall.co.uk/globalassets/uk/projects/south-kyle/ocms-1-road-and-wind-turbine-construction.pdffrom page 8 onwards.

its not the first time access roads have been built on deep sloping peat. as your aware peat around the half way house is in a poor condition. the restoration program would assist in preventing any more decay. and lets face it its not wind turbines thats caused the damage. i assume the crofter/farmers are not planning on paying to restore the moor. if it not returned to a better state expect more and more slides.

if none clinical staff were to work bank holidays it would cost a fair bit in extra pay. if you want 24/7 clinical care we will either need to pay more or move. just out of intrest are you aware that out scanner is only used part time because we have a contract with aberdeen that prevents us using it full time. not to do with staff manning it.it also classed as obsolete. say we have 3 xray staff members we can only expect them to work a set number of hours. they come in when needed it must have been decided that the womans condition did not warrant calling in staff. a small break in a foot really is not life threatening but very painful as you would expect.

only solution is to employ more staff. and you know that is not in any plan. they are planning to reduce staff numbers. so expect more of the same. simply put dont injure yourself outwith 9-5 weekdays.  you really need to be worried by the reduction in nursing and related staff and the skillbase those left have. loads of very skilled and talented folks have left in the last few years. its also silly to allow your staff to leave without trying to prevent it. it costs 1000s to recruit off island. but im sure you will be pleased to know the number of real managers has increased each year. ive never understood why an island needs 2 public health consultants. yet we dont have a psychologist on island. before our chair takes on orkney maybe he should pay more attention to the job he is paid to do now.  just remember its not tje doctors/nurses fault if you cant be seen due to poor staffing levels its the boards fault.

Trying to keep calm about this as the SIC pissed off a lot of parents about this.

The SIC suddenly dropped the playschemes they provided for disabled bairns without any attempt to put any alternative in place. These schemes were not a means to give parents a few hours free, they were the only opportunity for bairns, who might otherwise have had to spend the summer stuck at home, to meet their school pals and do things that other bairns might take for granted.

A group of parents heroically organised a scheme the first summer but Disability Shetland were drawn in as they already operated a Saturday Club for the same bairns. The upshot was that Disability Shetland now had to employ a social worker to meet Car Commission regulations. As this was extra provision the SCT would not fund it.

So it is thanks to an SIC official who cut a budget for a bunch of vulnerable people and failed to organise alternatives, and councillors who did not have a clue what the playscheme was about.
