I have no time for people who say one thing and do another either Colin, hence my long standing invitation to you to reconcile the apparent contradiction between Pastor Niemollers poem which you quote, and your own quite palpable intolerance towards disenfranchised people.
By all means be critical, but criticise with dignity. Poorly informed and juvenile rambling does damage not only to your own credibility, but also to the good and necessary work which is being done by very many sincere and devoted people who are trying to mitigate as best they can the effects of a truly appalling war in the Middle East.

You could call that a lot of different things besides cynicism and reality

Nobody is claiming AC is the only dishonest politician going. The fact that anyone (don't worry, you're not alone) uses that as an argument for letting him off beggars belief. There's loads of professions with stereotypical criminal activities where such an argument would never see the light of day: priests, footballers, musicians etc.

He, however, has been caught and admitted his own wrong doing and should therefore suffer the consequences. He certainly shouldn't be let off because he's a politician!

How awful. I usually lug the contents of M&S on board with me for the trip and feast in my cabin.  I have never been frisked as I clink past.

You seem remarkably free of any empathy or understanding towards these people. I suspect that 'taking the mikey' and 'pushing it' was not at the forefront of their minds given their uniquely traumatic circumstances.  They were just trying to get home. Giving them a break would have been the decent thing to do.

Score one for AC. I'll eat only half my hat though as you missed out the rest of his quote: "...however I was aware of its content and agreed that my special adviser should make it public". He knew and sanctioned its release. It is the weekend and I'm done flogging this horse.

"It was something I could have stopped and very much should have stopped".  He said all that on camera. "should" means he knew what was going on. Had he not known the contents we would have been given, "It was something I could have stopped and very much would have stopped had I been aware of the contents of the memo".

Lets get a reality check on this:

    Guy gets mugged.
Folk rally round and present him with a tidy sum of money.
He eventually decides to move to Shetland.

    Absolute non-story.

Anywhere else in the UK, no-one would question his motives or his decision to move anywhere. Nowt to do with anyone but him.

The quality of invective in fights has fallen over the years. I read a court case recently about a punch up in Scalloway from the Shetland Times in 1929. It was started by one person calling another a snipe, who retaliated by calling him a fat elphant.

They did have the right. But that's not the point. Judging someone on place of education or title (or physical appearance, body odour and all the other things we make snap judgements on) is entirely natural as an initial reaction to new information. However, basing an important decision off the back of it, is highly dubious. I'd far rather know a candidate were trying to influence their own result by back handed means and have that right upon which to decide my vote before an election. Which ever party they represented.

I totally agree it's a fiendish, lowly, sinister way to behave, any upright citizen would inform social services. Surely these dastardly people could of found a babysitter or in the case of the older children let them play Xbox with their mates instead of being in an embarrassing demo with their parents.

Some of them may even be motivated by a sense of morality and a desire for justice. Imagine that.

Jim o Berry's first plane is now installed in the Scalloway Museum. This plane was completely built  by Jim from scratch after studying a course on aeronautical engineering. This plane never flew but Jim built another one a few years later that did fly.

The plane lay in a barn at Jim's farm for many years and was restored by Harry Irvine and Alan Nicolson prior to installation at the museum. Only part of the plane has been covered in canvas to allow visitors to marvel at the detail of its construction.

And valet parking with a quick massage at the checkout too perhaps? I'm not quite sure if you're being serious. Hope not!

I can't say I find the COOP car park that bad. White lines (or not) folk park (or not) the same, regardless. If your car is as precious (and you have working legs) there's always the option of parking in the other car park (with lines!) and walking the extra 20 yards.

Salmond was here a few months ago.  'Pissing on a post'

Looks to me like someone has told Cameron that Shetland has real value to Scotland/UK and that there have been rumblings of separation from Scotland in the event of a 'Yes' vote.
he was here to 'show interest'.

    More 'post pissing'.

Personally, I don't like or trust either of them.
