police said dont travel apart for urgent reasons. now if a person was injured after that was issued because of a trip to the tip the we would be moaning about it being open. the management is a different issue. the real workers are always friendly and helpful. remember most accidents dont happen in extreme events they happen on should i days.

2 years penalty ott. the good reason i like. in general its over draconian could be done with much less fine for this and that. simply it needs locking up a record of who where and why. i still say this can be done as part of the buying process. and as an aside 12 year old killed in usa for having an airsoft pistol.  he had taken the bright end off. he did not aim or fire it. i know its the usa but im just hoping our police would not but im not to sure. im sorry a chain is just not tough enough to stop even a young kid.
iei dred to see a british report os a 12 year old being killed youngest is a 21 year old. ex solder

paulb reacted to Ghostrider in support for elderly and disabled people in Shetland
The number of eligible folk "needing" that bit extra opposed to the number not really needing it certainly has turned upside down during the life of the Christmas Bonus scheme, but there's still a goodish number of folk who through no fault of their own never had the opportunity to benefit much if any from Shetland's oil prosperity and be in a position to set themselves up for their old age. It sets ill for an organisation like the SCT just to abandon such people for no other reason that its become "difficult" for them to be satisfied those people are what they claim they are, and not chancers looking to add to plenty.

No doubt someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recollect that assisting the elderly who weren't in a position to benefit directly from oil wealth was only part of the original reasoning behind setting it up. The second part of the argument was that the elderly, disabled etc were by definition less able to benefit from many of the other local services and facilities the SCT financed, and the payment was to help ensure they got an equal "share" of the kitty to everyone else.

That argument still stands today, the same as it did on day one. The Amenity Trust, Arts Trust and Recreational Trust are all funded by the SCT and are arguably for the benefit of all of Shetland, and yes, the SCT supports some rural care homes and the doiters clubs, but that still leaves those who for whatever infirmity are past traipsing here and there for fun much if at all, but still are independent enough to want to keep well clear of living in a home, abandoned high and dry with virtually nothing.

If this goes I suppose it can only be a matter of time before the SCT Social Assistance Grants get binned too, as they'll be the last direct to end user scheme the SCT has, and as they also need assessments done, if they can't do these, there's no reason to suppose they'll find a way to continue doing those either.

The SCT funding other charities like COPE, the Disability Recreational Club, RVS and suchlike is all fine and well, but its only benefitting the few whom fall specifically within those organisations remits, and do those charities means test their clients to ensure they cannot reasonable be expected to pay for the service the charity provides them with? If not, the SCT is going to land itself with a credibility issue if they stick to their current story for stopping the Christmas Bonus payments.

The apparent indifference to the arguably grandiose gesture referenced in this news item, may possibly stem from an attitude held by some. That after the inappropriate and unbecoming to the position they hold language and behaviour displayed by the individuals concerned at the Council meeting earlier this month, ignoring them is the only way to receive them.

It also bears saying that the same incident, is viewed by some of the same people as an extremely poor reflection on that meeting's Chair, for allowing two such incidents to occur apparently without attempt to intervene and/or rebuke those concerned.

Bluntly, if public representatives cannot remain polite and respectful to their peers while discharging their duty, regardless of how much they disagree with each others opinion, there is really no way forward left.

^ I was a very great deal happier living in the sticks with none, at least there you made you own arrangements to suit your own needs - If you want something done, you do it yourself.

This ghetto I currently have the misfortune to be stuck in has had street lights continuously since it was built circa '71/'72. If they'd simply take them away, folk could make their own arrangements, end of. Instead we've lived with half of them not working for one month shy of three years, waiting on them to be replaced, and now that they have finally turned up to do it, they've chosen to do so in the darkest time of year, and are in no hurry to get the job finished - the longer it strings out, the less time workmen are actually on site. Meanwhile we wait some more, this time in the pitch dark. The job could easily have been done in 3-4 days tops, six columns, one day to knock down, one day to erect, one day to fit and wire, and a spare day to cover "unforseens" - we're now at two days shy of three weeks. All the old went, five columns erected, not sure about the sixth, but it wasn't up late last week. Only two fitted and wired as far as I am aware. Workmen were noted on the job on only one day last week, and then only a part day.

Its about pissing, or getting off the pot. Either do the job in a "reasonable" amount of time, or forget pretending to try and do it but never end up getting anywhere, so that folk can take care of it themselves.

Seems that the new 'designed by consultant' timetable.and routes don't suit students at Shetland College..
Maybe the consultant(?) never went to college or, maybe he never went to a college that was so far from the nearest bus stop....

Surprised (not) that the ZetTrans employee who advised the consultant (they did advise him didn't they?) didn't point out that the old service (town and Scalloway) went via the college a couple of time per day.

Wonder if the consultant will refund part of his fee for 'screwing up'?

Surprised (not) that the principal/staff didn't take the lead on this one... Maybe it's because they all drive to their work and never have to 'slum it' on a bus....

Wonder why they don't offer some of their students a lift..?

Anyone fancy a walk out to Gremista on a cold, wet, windy morning.  That would be an education(?) on it's own...

did you read the first link the long list of injuries. 1 person a year is at least 2 families destroyed. and no current laws dont stop a mentally disturbed person accessing them unlike firearms. security and tracking is not upto anything a chain wont stop anyone.

did he really claim that. from my kids experience it falls well behind both brae and aith in both teaching and pupil support. even the english schools that they were at 8 years ago were more interested and supportive.

my 16 year old son has learning problems. he did well at aith and was happy. he managed a few weeks at the anderson and walked out. we were really impressed that the school could not be even bothered to let us know what he did. hopefully we have got an alternative sorted for him. HOWEVER THE ANDERSON IS NOT THAT GOOD. they think they are a big school but even my smsll secondary school of 33 years ago taught better and made an effort.

of course there is not any malice we just see things differently. nothing wrong with that. this new law will require 2 doctors to agree. that involves the medical profession. people see palliative medicine as a failure when in reality its a highly specialized area  its an area thats always been neglected which is a pity as dying is after all part of life. the wife is always affected when one of her patients dies but she also knows she has done her best to help them. she like me could not take part in assisting to kill someone. but thats our view. each to there own view

He also does contribute the odd good point or a hundred. its when egos crash that problems start.

if a house was badly effected then like any other industry they would have fix there impact. manchester airport had to install massive amounts of secondary glazing to counter the noise increase from there new runway.

we have an evance system. apart from one auto shut off due to wind speed. its not had a problem. evance have had to alter the amout it feeds into the grid as they wont allow more than roughly 3.5kw connections the rest is sent to a dump heater. the installation went smoothly the groundworks guy was local and very friendly he is from twat. we thought they would destroy our park as it gets very soft but it was way better than we thought.
